Somewhere during the early 1600s the hung sash window or what is more commonly known as the sash windows were made and used by nearly all households in Georgian and Victorian communities. Same as other types of windows, the sash window Bristol also has some benefits of its own. But first, before learning its benefits, you should learn a thing or two about what a sash window is.

A sash window is basically movable panels that hold panes of glass separated by muntins. A muntin is a type of grid used to divide the panes of glass, which can be in either a window or a door. This is pretty common in Western architecture. This particular type of glazing, though, is called a sash. The term is used exclusively to define a sliding window with glazed panels that can be moved vertically or horizontally. In order for the window panel to stay put, there have been different ways used like putting some counter weights on the window frame. The sash window Bristol and other modern counterparts of this type of window use friction tracks to achieve the same goal or result. If you want to give your house a little bit of classical ambience to it then this kind of window is a great choice. Given that this in fact was a common window during the 1600s, modern designs today also apply the sliding feature of a sash window, but they have additional features that help keep the water out during a rain as compared to traditional models.

The modern ones prove to be more effective at that but nonetheless, traditional models are still available for any homeowner to use and install on their house; although if you’re only after the “look”, there are some modern windows that also have that classical look. If you can risk rain getting inside your house then a classical type is no problem for you. Of course, there are some other counter measures for that matter like a rain gutter on your house. However, during strong rainstorms it may not be enough and that is when you actually risk some rain water getting inside your house through the windows. Then again, if you are in an area where flood usually occurs then water going inside your house through the windows is of less concern compared to flood water that can enter both through your doors and windows. Disregarding these factors, though, you could go classical in your home or go modern. Those who go for the latter prefer to go authentic and look different from others in a good way, and for them going classical makes one stand out a bit when in a neighborhood filled with conventional modern homes. But you should be careful when you do want to install a classical wooden type of sash window. Wood is susceptible to rotting and this could weaken the foundation of your window and thus you may end up replacing it with another one, increasing your expenses.

Aside from looking classical, when it comes to ventilation, sash windows can serve like a non-electrical air-conditioning unit. When you are able to open both the top and bottom part of the window, warm air goes out through the top and cool air goes in through the bottom. Other types of sash windows have hinges on one side that allow it to be swung open when its counter balance is detached on the other side. This feature can be used to provide ease when cleaning it or when in emergencies, it can serve as a safety measure. Windows need to be replaced at some point and when it comes to this, there is probably no kind of window that will be easier to replace than this type of UPVC windows. All you need to do is to unscrew the top screws and then proceed to the bottom one. Unless you have a more sophisticated type of sash window, in which case it would become a different story. If you only want your house to look classical and are not prepared for the tougher maintenance required for these kinds of windows then probably you are better off with their modern counterparts that have a classical design. Though they may not be authentic ones, at least they have the external classical look and yet an internal modern feature. There are certain degrees of responsibilities in pretty much every item you use. They offer different kinds of benefits and different degrees of maintenance come along with it. Be aware of those and you should be fine.
